From 5-9 February 2001, in Moscow, the Shell Safety Management Systems training course was conducted by Cliff Edwards, Quality & Safety Development Manager of Shell Aircraft Limited, London. Aviashelf, RusAir, Kazair West and Clintondale Aviation were represented by Victor Aksyutin (Aviashelf General Director), John Dunlop (Aviashelf Supervisor), Yuri Shanin (RusAir General Director), Alexander Trushin (Flight Safety Advisor), Serik Zhumagaliev (KazAir West Chief Operations Officer), Victor Synitsin (Clintondale Aviation Technical Director) and Blair Dyer (Clintondale Aviation Director of Operations). Yuri Tchoufyrin, Aviation Manager of Shell Exploration & Producing Services, Russia, also attended.
The purpose of the course was to present a systematic approach to aviation safety including the way to analyse areas of greatest aviation risks in our operations and the determination of actions to prevent, minimize or mitigate such risks. Because Shell believes that this system improves flight safety and reduces risk, compliance with its principles is a pre-requisite for future contractors that provide ongoing aviation services.
The Safety Management System was developed by Shell approximately two years ago and they have conducted this course for their own aviation divisions and for their contractors.
